trapdoor spider trap door

In a roadside clay bank at Bukit Fraser, a hill station a couple of hours outside Kuala Lumpur.

The lid to the trap door is just off-centre to the left, and there are silk trip-lines running out from it (to let the spider know when an insect is passing by outside). This burrow belonged to a baby spider and the lid was only the size of my thumbnail.

The species is Liphistius malayanus.
