you know what, that didn't even occur to me at the time but looking at the photos I can't see anything at all in the tanks that could be part of filtration equipment.
there is an opening 2 inches from the bottom of tank that is joined to an undergravel plate in the tank... to prevent all the water from gushing or even syphoning out the exit pipe makes a u-bend upward with an opening at the top and then bends downward to a filter chamber at the bottom of the tank... water is sent back into the tank by a pump from the sump into a homemade wave maker at the top right hand corner of each tank
the baby turtles were hawksbills and greens. But no, I have no idea what happened to them. They may indeed have been released as the sign suggested they would be.
