Indeed. As from my own experience, there are only 2 or 3 points (one from above) around the exhibit, where you can take good pictures without that disturbing wire - provided that the lions are not too close to the wire and are not hidden in the vegetation.
Although I ask myself if the hot wire is really necessairy (or should have beeninstalleted on the visitors side of the exhibit instead to avoid/hinder an escape of swimming lions)
Where the lion is in the above picture actually allows you to take pictures over the hotwire because as you can see it is on a raised area.
(I'm sure someone who is a better photographer than me or who has better equipment could have got a reasonably good picture).
I thought the most interesting big cat exhibit at the zoo in terms of viewing was the snow leopard exhibit. Picture to be uploaded later today or tomorrow.
