ant-lion pits

Fans of Gerald Durrell will know all about ant-lions from his Corfu upbringings. His books are where I first learned of them at any rate. They are common all across Asia, and I have even seen them in Fiji.

These ones are in a disused rabbit pen.

See here for a review of my visit (in January 2014): http://www.zoochat.com/2182/zoos-burma-5-naypyitaw-zoo-14-a-362193/

@Chli: my telediagnosis: an acute case of infectious logorrhoea. Currently, this appears to be most prevalent in the fantasy zoo section, occasionally spreading to other sections where it dies off due to a lack of actual expertise and mutual supportive jabbering.

Too bad ant-lions are not that common in Europe. With the right educational background, this would be a very interesting exhibit, even allowing for commented public live prey feeding.

Nice Pic Chli. When I was younger, I would always go outside and sit by the Antlion pits, waiting for that one unfortunate ant to fall in and the antlion would eat it
