I just re-read most of your review and these sun bear cages are obviously appalling. Were any of the bears exhibiting stereotypical behavior like head-bobbing or relentless pacing? It seems that sun bears could easily go insane in such barbaric conditions.

pretty much all the bears I saw in Burmese zoos were probably going insane, with the notable exceptions of those at the very good Naypyitaw Zoo and those at the Mini Zoo at Hlawga Park.
This particular cage I likened to a budgie cage for bears. I think there were five bears inside.
