Sadly, another potential breeding pair gone bust. The female was born around 1988 and the male around 1991, so both are well into their twenties by now.
When they started building a new enclosure a few years ago - which by good management practice still looks rather "outdated" the window of opportunity had already been lost (at least for the female to conceive).

the current zoo started as the private collection of the then Prime Minister in 1932, came under government control in 1950, and opened to the public in 1956. The rhino birth in 1826 was in the private zoo of the King of Nepal.
