A new natural history museum was opened to the public this week. It features a 2-level gallery that focuses mainly on Southeast Asian biodiversity. It is run by the National University of Singapore's Faculty of Science. The museum also has non-public herbarium and zoological reference collections totaling over a million specimens, for academic and research purposes.

The photo shows the exterior of the 7-storey museum, designed to look like a large boulder, with native cliff vegetation growing in terraced planters.

aaah, another zoological reason to visit Singapore! Would you be able to write a little review or walk-through of the museum? And, related question, is the Raffles Museum of Biodiversity at the university still operating or has this new "proper" museum replaced it as a visitor facility?

Yes, this is the new incarnation of the Raffles Museum of Biodiversity! A much needed improvement with proper visitor facilities and experience. A walk-through will be put up shortly ;)

excellent (on both counts).

I liked the old museum, because I like old-style museums with their monkeys floating in formalin and freaky stuffed animals, but I acknowledge I am not typical of regular visitors! (Also from memory it was a bit of an awkward museum to even find).
