this is one of the ones obtained for the upcoming River Safari? Are they housed in the Jungle Jewels aviary, or in one of their own?

I didn't know they were getting these!

Where are they from, where are they now, and where are they for?

The link on Zooish's post no longer works, so I found a different one:

3 August 2011

Wildlife Reserves Singapore (WRS) received eight stunning birds from Peru as part of a continuing partnership with the Republic of Peru through the Embassy of Peru in Singapore. This gift bears much significance as the species, the Andean Cock-of-the-Rock, is the country’s national bird.

.......

The birds are currently under quarantine at Jurong Bird Park and will eventually reside at the River Safari, WRS’ upcoming attraction slated to open in 2012. The birds will remain in their permanent habitat at River Safari’s Amazon River region, in a rainforest setting reminiscent of their Amazonian jungle home.

They are housed with the Birds of Paradise. I only noticed one pair on display.

I bet zooboy28 is gutted he missed them!!!

I wonder if they will keep one pair at Jurong, or if they will house them all at the River Safari when it opens.

Very nice photo by the way.

Thanks - the male was in sight but tended to keep to the back of the aviary.

I spoke to a keeper who confirmed that the majority would be displayed at the River Safari as they wanted to encourage them to demonstrate the lekking habit of the species.

Yes, I am somewhat disappointed. But it will be a nice new species to see at River Safari.

Time for me to visit JBP again! The birds weren't on display yet when I was there in May.

Were they kept with the Lesser BoPs?

Also did you see the new Shoebill exhibit by the Flamingo Lake?
