That's an interesting addition - new species for Jurong? It appears to be present in a few European collections, but I appear to have missed it so far.

Jurong used to have coletos before, it seems (GlobalSpecies lists them for Jurong). I wonder if this is a new arrival or maybe they just had it/them off-show?

Thanks for the ID and info. New softbill species are being added on an almost monthly basis and it's getting hard to keep up, especially with the non-existent signage.

In the 1980-ties quite a number were imported to Europe from the Philippines - their country of orgin - and it was bred at a number of collections - both privat and public. Took care - and bred them - at Walsrode - myself but now-a-days they are a real rare sight here in Europe ( Zootierliste mention 4 collections ).

There is a pair in this aviary, and one off-exhibit. I think they are fairly new. The park is getting many new species in preparation for the upcoming move in 4 years time, and at the same time I believe some species will be taken out, as the new park collection gets assembled. Exciting times to come :D

Any ideas on what direction the new park is heading in? More of a South-East Asian focus?

General direction is to focus more on indo-pacific species, plus species of high conservation value generally (speaking to staff). Not sure if the hornbill collection will remain referential (hopefully yes) as most exhibits are large walk-throughs.
Not sure if there will still be penguins.
Number of species should remain close to current (450+).
