Yangtze River - Giant Panda habitat (U/C)

Builders worked round the clock to erect the indoor panda habitat (the dome structure to the right). In my previous photo taken just 3 months ago, the area was still flat land. The pandas are due to arrive in the 1st quarter of 2012 and will spend 6 months in quarantine / acclimatisation before going on display by October 2012.

In the background is the Amazon River zone, with land grading and foundation works still in progress.

From what I have seen of photos of Singapore Zoo, this large building seems to go against their outdoor, open-air feel. (I realize for cold-climate animals like pandas it may be a necessity in hot and humid Singapore).

You're quite right, the building does stand out a lot. But with pandas, there's no other option except to keep them indoors given Singapore's harsh climate.
