Sentosa Insect Kingdom, 30 July 2006. Most of the beetles were kept in these tiny holes in the wall, covered in a plastic shield. I believe they were probably just put in there and then constantly replaced as they died. You can see the beetle here on the right is already dead (its head is lying on the ground to the left of the body)
