The old metal/telegraph pole structure was removed and live ficus trees planted to make the exhibit more natural looking.

The island houses the old Bornean/hybird males and females.

is this where orangutan ah meng lives ? and do you know anything eles about the orangurtans at sinapore zoo - i know they have a lot ! do you know names , numbers etc many thanks

Ah Meng stays mostly in an off-exhibit enclosure these days due to her age and the fact that she isn't the nicest of orangs.

There are 17 Borneans, 3 hybrids and 5 Sumatrans at the zoo.
These are the names i know:

Bornean females:
Anita
Atina
Binte
Leela
Niah
Miri

Bornean males:
Bento
Budi
Labu
Veera
Gunta
Suria
Merlin
Zabu

Sumatran females:
Ah Meng
Sayang
Chomel

Sumatran males:
Charlie
Satria

Hybird female:
Medan

Hybrid male:
Riau

By is the nicest, do you mean that she'll throw objects or attempt to stab with sticks, or her appearence?

She doesn't get along well with the other orang utans. Maybe she knows she's special and behaves a little like a diva. Most of the time she's off-exhibit with one of her daughters/ grand-daughters for company.

Only a couple of keepers who've been working with her since she was young can work comfortably with her. Ah Meng's rather uncooperative with the other younger keepers.
