Free-ranging orang-utan

Does free-ranging mean they can go anywhere on zoo grounds they choose?

No, it's quite a misleading name. About 5 metres from the ground are several strands of hotwire around the trunks of several nearby trees, the orangs are then given access to the canopy but cannot escape due to the hotwire. The trees, incidentally, are coated in vines and ropes, the idea being that the orangs will destroy these rather than the trees themselves. Apparently it works quite well, although the system is only used by the females and youngsters.
