The reptile walk-thru exhibit has been reinstated after it was closed more than 2 years ago and used as a temporary holding for squirrel monkeys acquired for the River Safari.

It now houses 12 species, mostly chelonians: Chinese Pond Turtle, False Map Turtle, Indian Black Turtle, Malayan Box Turtle, Chinese Striped Turtle, Mata Mata, Red-footed Tortoise, Yellow-footed Tortoise, Elongated Tortoise, Green Iguana, Green Crested Lizard, Changeable Lizard.

Cool! Looks like it will be a good exhibit to get up close to reptiles. How does this reincarnation compare to the pre-Squirrel Monkey version? Similar species mix?

The old version was cooler - there were snakes inside (ratsnakes, gold-ringed catsnakes, whip snakes, amethyst pythons). But I was told theft became an issue and they had to remove the snakes. The present version has way more turtle/tortoise species though.

Talking about getting close, the green iguana in the picture is really friendly. People were touching it all over and it just chilled :cool:
