One last look at the koalas on loan from Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary in Brisbane. The exhibit will close on 4th January and the four female koalas will return home after quarantine.

No word yet on what will become of the koala house and if the Zoo will keep koalas permanently in future.

Do you know what happened for them to have to send the koalas back in the first place? Had the exhibit's popularity decreased because everyone had seen the koalas?

It was meant to be a short-term display. Australia had arranged for the koalas to be sent to Singapore from March 2015 to January 2016 in celebration of Singapore's 50th year of independence (and 50 years of diplomatic ties between Singapore and Australia). The Singapore Zoo is currently not prepared to keep koalas permanently as there are no local sources of eucalyptus leaves. Eucalyptus leaves are being flown in weekly from Australia for this short-term display, which is extremely costly.
