You didn't really review this aquarium other than to say it was crowded and you saw the African manatees. What the heck is this section of the aquarium?
It looks like the aquarium designer was taking hallucinogenic drugs while walking through a Home Depot and had a vision to turn it into an aquarium.
The Aquarium is an odd mix of really nice well-set-up tanks for local coldwater species (fresh and marine), a rather fake and dark rainforest (but I quite liked it), some poor enclosures (especially for the mammals), and then the section in the above photo. This area was called Fish's Wonderland and it is exactly as if someone on drugs walked through a home depot and was inspired to turn everything there into a fish tank. Or perhaps more likely watched Tanked on cable (that tv show is what immediately came to mind when walking round here).
A lot of the tanks are totally innapropriate for keeping fish in, but to their credit the worst ones either didn't actually have fish in them or only had a couple of hardy individuals (although every Gyrinocheilus I saw was starving to the point of having hollow sides). What I didn't get was the inclusion of the Prevost's squirrels in their weird "bathroom", or especially the prairie dog "martial arts studio". It made zero sense.
