Do you know if the elephant was chained like this for your entire visit? Was the animal sick or receiving any kind of medical treatment? Between this photo and the atrociously tiny jaguar cage this Sri Lankan zoo does not appear to be very impressive. Alas, another god-awful Asian zoo.
according to the book "gods in chains" and i man i spoke with at the inspire foundation in sri lanka, this is how the majority of captive non african elephants live their lives. one chain in the front, one chain in the back.
