Sri Lankan Elephants

This is Kumari... a beautiful girl, from memeory she was about 35 she had a tendancy to lash out at people that got a little bit too close. a french volunteer got a palm frond up the side of the head.

Anyone know why only indian eles get this pink colouring?

They don't I believe Sumatrans do and Sri Lankans do as well (you know, like the one in this picture). Unless you refer to Asian Elephants as Indians then ignore this post.

so why do the Sri Lankan and the Sumatrans get the colouring? is it age related?

As a child they reminded me of the old chocolate bars that discoloured in the sun and when you opened them they had a white coating over the top.
