Poaching and sport-hunting of elephants use to be a big problem in Yala Park back in the 20th century. On our safari we drove through a big open field, a place what used to be an area of forest that was home to herds of roaming elephants, what is now a barren scrubland dotted with the bones and tusks of some of the elephants that were hunted back in the days.
Now, the elephant population has made an amazing return, although big bulls with tusks like this one are rare.
