Counterquestion: do you really think a zoo would place a genuine fossil outdoors to be touched by thousands of zoo visitors?

oh sorry my bad! I thought it was in like a walk way on exhibits and that was on in an exhibit on it's own.

I've been to museums that have done, albeit with much sturdier remains than an ichyosaur's.

True, though the Isle of Wight and Jurassic Coast are both very popular tourist destinations.

Here (UK), ichyosaurs are relatively common-maybe not whole skeletons or as well preserved as the one that cast one was taken from, but they arn't rare. The Pterodactylus is a rarer fossil though, I agree. Hence why I said "albeit"-the bones I touched were from a sauropod, and thus more like boulders

The Leaning Tower of Pisa or the Grand Canyon are also very popular tourist destination-yet nobody would equal them to zoos...

An ichthyosaurus (note the spelling) in the setting depicted above would be an extremely rare find all over the planet-and the people in charge of it would take care to keep the natural elements and greedy, clumsy visitor hands away from it...
