squirrel stall, Chatuchak Weekend Market, January 2014

over two visits (Saturday and Sunday) I lost count of the number of squirrel stalls I saw but at least twenty. A couple of stalls had only three or four baby squirrels but most would have had between ten and thirty. Most of the squirrels for sale at the market were variable squirrels and Himalayan striped squirrels.

At this stall the owner was perfectly happy for me to take photos, but at most the reactions were extremely hostile!

I took this photo to show some of the prices. There are about 32 Baht to one US Dollar. At another stall I saw someone buy a young squirrel with a little chain; from 1200 Baht he got back 40 Baht change.
