squirrel stall, Chatuchak Weekend Market, January 2014

over two visits (Saturday and Sunday I lost count of the number of squirrel stalls I saw but at least twenty. A couple of stalls had only three or four baby squirrels but most would have had between ten and thirty. Most of the squirrels for sale were variable squirrels and Himalayan striped squirrels.

The ones on top, are they tethered to prevent escape?
yes, there are usually a few on top of the cages with little ribbons or chains around their necks and tied to the wire. They are sold with the leashes so the people can carry them on their arms or shoulders.
