elephants, Chiang Mai Zoo (Thailand)

22 Sept 2006. These poor elephants were confined within the circular wall for the entire time I was at the zoo (there was a barrier across the opening behind them).

I'm surprised that the elephants are not chained to the pole in their enclosure. That way they could go around and around and perhaps become a mini-generator and therefore create an electrical current...haha.

the actual enclosure is on the other side of the circular pit. Its still very small but obviously much larger than the pit. I don't know how often or for how long the elephants are allowed out into the enclosure proper. Possibly its only for rides. Who knows.
