March 2014. The house was not yet finished (the interior was still being worked on and furnished) but visitors were allowed to enter. Banners nearby declared the king penguins would be arriving soon.
The ground floor of the building is largely dedicated to mammoths (because why not). An upstairs level to the right is where the above-water viewing of the penguins will be (could have done with more space but looked adequate -- I have no photos because of reflections off the glass), and then you go back down a ramp to the underwater viewing shown here. When the pool is filled and occupied obviously there will be more visible than inky blackness :D
