Actually this photo is not Thai but Taiwanese. The hand belongs (or belonged) to the vet of the Taipei Zoo in Taiwan, snapped off by this Nile Crocodile when he and keepers were operating on the animal in its exhibit. The photo of the animal with the hand in its mouth was featured in the worldwide media and continues to give me shiver down my back. I think doctors managed to attach the hand back on the vet, but if he was ever able to return to work I don't know.
Baldur is quite right - I had the wrong event in my head when I wrote the photo caption. It was actually at the Shaoshan (or Shoushan) Zoo in Taiwan (not in Taipei itself) in 2007. The crocodile was shot by keepers to get the arm back, and it was later surgically reattached to the vet. There are a few clips on youtube about it.
