One of the mostly achingly beautiful places I've ever seen. Just unbelievable.

Accessed via two-passenger rowing boats, which neatly provides both local employment, tourist entertainment, wildlife-spotter joy and a reason for the local community to protect the wetlands and their residents.

It was both those things!

My other thought on first seeing this landscape (at the risk of letting my geek credentials show through again) was 'Kashyyyk'.

Are there any crocodilians, otters, or any of the giant freshwater fish species in these wetlands?

Crocs are very rare in Vietnam; we only saw captive ones.

The wetlands are actually very shallow - the only fish we saw were small (less than 2-inch) ones, though they were plentiful. No sign of otters though it's not impossible they'd turn up.

I guess I'm not geek enough. I had to google that.

Is it really geeky to know what Kashyyyk is :p

Seems they were right about me, tell the world: They were right :D
