Home to Sambar and Vietnamese Sika.

This run of paddocks are entered via a strange castle-like entrance and then offer raised viewing of simple paddocks for Indian Muntjac, Sambar, Eld\'s Deer, Hog Deer, Vietnamese Sika, Black-bearded Brindled Gnu and Asian Wild Boar.

Which form of Eld's was it ? Any idea if it might have been siamensis?

?????

For some reason this strikes me as odder than the Cuban croc's in the small animal run!
Is it the rare Asian gnu, only known to locals? :p

In fairness, it's not as if Chester or London only have native species, is it? :D

There are a lot more non-natives at Saigon than Hanoi - partly I think because the long-term plan is for the zoo to move to become a safari park outside of town - hence there are White Rhino, giraffe, wildebeest, Gemsbok, Blesbok, kudu and zebras in addition to the hippos and ostriches that both zoos have.

I have pondered this on some of the other photos - I'm pretty sure they are siamensis based on a) geography and b) colouration - I've seen siamensis once before at Paris and the Saigon animals have the same sandy colouring.

Very true! :p
But if they did have a section featuring red, roe and fallow deer along with wild boar I don't think it'd make much sense to shove an antelope into the mix...
But hey, it'd be a sad, sad world if we were all alike. :D

This area now consists of just two paddocks: one holding Blue Wildebeest and the other a mix of Sambar, Sika and Indian Muntjac (with a mysterious lone Wildebeest there as well).
If the hog deer, elds and wild pigs are still there they were neither signposted nor visible.
Does anyone know the origin of the deer? Trying to find out for the ZooChat Challenge.
