Given the height of the door, I would expect this to have previously been a giraffe house - although the zoo doesn't currently have any (and I don't definitively know if they had kept them previously).
around Dec 2002/Jan 2003 one was sent there from Santiago's Metropolitan Zoo. (I found a brief mention on Google from a Santiago newspaper, and that is the only thing I see in English for giraffes at Mendoza).
When i was at mendoza zoo last year a keeper told me that their last giraffe died a few years ago. Now the plans are to turn mendoza zoo into a ecoparque with mostly native species. Giraffes are very very expensive in south america, so it is more practical for mendoza zoo to give up on having giraffes.
