It's difficult to pick something which I'd call a highlight at this zoo. So many of the enclosures are appalling, but there are a few which are reasonable/good. Perhaps the large sloping lion enclosure which can be viewed from above and below? When standing at the lower viewpoint I wondered whether a bit more of an effort could have been made to encourage a Hagenbeck-style panorama. The large condor aviary was another enclosure which I recall was decent. The number of escaped/free-ranging animals and fascinating setting of the zoo actually made for a rather exciting visit, but mostly for the wrong reasons.
Mendoza zoo will be transformed into an Ecoparque with mostly native species, but how long that will take is hard to tell. Nothing is certain in Argentina due to the political instablity. Mendoza has a very good record for breeding argentine native species like vicuña,condor, rhea, puma, etc. So the Ecoparque transformation may be alright if done correctly.
