Zoologico de Cali 2012

Red Brocket (Mazama americana)
The coloring is rather different from the brockets i have seen in Mexico.
Congrulations for these fine pictures.

Red Brockets have been split up into a lot of different species. Anyone know the origin of this animal?

I spoke with the Biologist at the Zoo and they weren't sure of the species exactly. Mazama americana is how the sign was labeled, but we all know that doesn't necessarily mean anything. I believe the brockets they had on exhibit were originally obtained from Brazil.

I was really looking forward to seeing a Little Red Brocket (Mazama rufina), which they had listed on ISIS, but alas no such luck. Meanwhile the Mazama rufina listed for Parque Jaime Duque, which I also eagerly awaited seeing, wound up being a Mérida Brocket (Mazama bricenii). This was fine by me since I've certainly never seen that species either!! Photos of that to come soon.
