If potter park was to get all the animals on their masterplan, zoo nerds would flock there by the dozens just to see these, vicunas( a US rarity), andes skunk, and more importantly, chinese golden snub nosed monkeys.
Were Vicunas, Andes skunks, and Golden snub nosed monkeys really on the master plan ? I did not notice that, if thats the case, the plan seems quite grandiose...
As Ituri said, those are what you call ''Pie in the sky'' wish list animals, and what these zoos tend to think is that if you put it on paper then you can make it happen, but some of these curators are clueless and don't realize that these animals either can't be sourced or are extremely hard to source, besides the animals you mentioned on Potter Park Zoo's master plan, there have been other examples of this kind out thinking, other examples include White eared kob on San Antonio Zoo's master plan, Proboscis monkeys on Boise Zoo's master plan, Water chevrotains on Miami Zoo's master plan, Giant otter shrews on Sacramento Zoo's 1988 master plan, Saigas on the master plans for San Francisco Zoo and Calgary Zoo etc etc etc.
But on that Potter Park Zoo plan, the most reasonable and tangible species would have to be the Vicuna, because of how common they are in European zoos
Another obstacle getting in the way of that Potter Park Zoo plan is that none of those animals on JBZvolunteer's list are SSP species, but then again AZA zoos don't always have to follow the instructions of Taxonomic Advisory Groups, for example Ruwenzori mountain fruit bats are a phase out species and Boise Zoo still breeds them, another example is Miami Zoo just got Southern bushpigs which are also a phase out species, and another example is Lion Country Safari getting Jacksons hartebeests which are not an SSP species either. In some cases though, the Taxonomic Advisory Groups can be tough on zoos keeping phase out/Non-SSP species, an example of that is Bronx Zoo being threatened with ethics violations by the New World Primate TAG for refusing to send their Silvery marmosets to Europe.
