Hola y bienvenido peregusna, i stayed in Havana 3 weeks some years ago, giving conferences at the University. To me the aquarium seemed to be the best animal collection in metropolitan Havana, much better than the outdated zoo in El Vedado.
By the way could you post some pictures of the mounted solenedon and ivory billed woodpeckers in the Museo de Historia natural de Havana. I think there are no pictures of those specimens on the internet at all. I lost all my Havana pictures.
@Arizona Docent Thank you! Yes, I am very glad a website like this exists.
@carlos77 Gracias Carlos! Actualmente estoy visitando a mi familia en EEUU. I didn't know I was going to expend time online, if I knew I would have brought many pictures of wildlife that I have been taking since I was a teenager. The solenodon cubanos can be seen in Sierra Maestra, Santiago de Cuba. They aren't that many but you can actually see them pretty much everywhere.
The Museo de Historia Natural that used to be in the Capitol and then moved to Old Havana, now has a very limited exhibition of pretty much photographs and a few taxidermic items, but they don't have the solenodon there anymore. About the carpintero cubano, since we have many conservartion areas we are sure that there are still a little population of cuban woodpeckers, and we want to keep it that way.
