Horse Exhibit

October 2008. Amazing to see presumably domesticated horses in a zoo. Perhaps they were wild ones that had been caught in the countryside, but Trinidad is all lush rainforest and I seriously doubt that there are wild horses anywhere on the island.

I don't know, there are some incredibly endangered horses on Great Abaco, the Bahamas. That's quite heavily forested, but domesticated horses do seem like a queer species to keep in a zoo as exibits.

Do you think that this exhibit was originally designed for something other than horses possibly? With the fortress-like barn and the pond there I'm wondering if this was an elephant or hippo exhibit possibly?

Good point. It is almost as "fortress-like" as the fairly new Elephant Conservation Center (aka giant metal steel cage) at San Diego Zoo.
