Pantanal cat (Leopardus braccatus)
Well, this answers my earlier question - I think you have provided us, in the past few days, with probably the most complete and high-quality set of photographs of the three split species of pampas cat I've ever seen!

For comparative purposes....

These images rather suggest that even if the split between Pantanal Cat and Colocolo is still debatable, there seem to be significant morphological differences which mean the Pampas Cat certainly deserves seperate specific status from the other two - in some ways it looks more like other members of Leopardus such as the Geoffroy's Cat and Oncilla than it does the two sometimes deemed conspecific.

I got out a couple of old Kilverstone guide books with pictures of their 'Pampas cats' and also had a look at Vo. 1 HMW which has no pictures . HMW lists only one species but 8 sub-species , illustrating 3 of them - Leopardus colocolo colocolo , L.c. braccatus and L.c. pajeros . The braccatus illustration is similar to the above photo, perhaps not so dark ; the colocolo is much less silver between the darker markings . The Kilverstone animals look very similar to pajeros , from Argentina to Chile , with brown not black stripes on legs and body , slightly gingery in colour , which is what I remember from seeing them .

Care to upload scans of the Kilverstone animals?
