A rather unusual species to see being flown.

The bird show lasted around 40-45min and basically consisted a just bringing out bird after bird and getting them flying around for 5min, often overlapping birds.

The species used at the show I saw were:

Southern Ground Hornbill
American Bald Eagle
European Griffon Vulture
Hooded Vulture
Chimango Caracara
Eastern Grey Crowned Crane
King Vulture
White-headed Vulture
Rueppell's Griffon Vulture
Marabou
Harris Hawk
Abdim's Stork
Red-tailed hawk
Black Kite
European White Stork
Sacred Ibis
Straw-necked Ibis
African Spoonbill

Did they provide any commentary of worthwhile information - or were they just saying "This is a Marabou Stork from Africa"?

It was actually quite a full commentary but you really had to concentrate to catch it all as it was one guy speaking pretty fast and switching between Spanish and English without a pause!

Sometimes you notice a few errors (or more often over-simplifications) in a show spiel but this seemed bang on the money - was pleased to note they pointed out that old and new world vultures aren't very closely related, for example. There was a lot about the European Griffon as that's a Spanish native (albeit not a Tenerife native!).

Marabous in flight are an awesome sight. This looks like a fantastic and unpretentious show.

There is a Theme Park in France - Puydu Fu - which also has an amazing free-flying Bird Show as one of its attractions . A review is in the Summer 2010 Zoo Grapevine .
