Home to King, Gentoo, Chinstrap and Rockhopper Penguins and packed with real snow and ice. Viewing is around three sides and both above and below water level. One of the best penguin exhibits I've seen (certainly among indoor-only exhibits).

A map/brochure that I have advertises this penguin exhibit as the largest in the world, but surely San Diego SeaWorld's enormous indoor pavilion with 300 birds is larger. Both must be amongst the best of their kind, although zoos in St. Louis and Calgary have modern, walk-through, chilled penguin exhibits with only short glass wall partitions separating birds and humans.
I'm very much looking forward to seeing Hamburg's new indoor penguin exhibit in a couple of weeks - it sounds a very interesting design.
I'm not sure if the exhibit at San Diego is still the same one I saw in '98 - if it is I'd say it was a close-run thing - hard to to judge because Loro Parque's is rounder whereas SD's (as I recall) was longer and thinner.
Don't forget the visually stunning Antarctic penguin exhibit in Odense ZOO! Still by far the best I have seen. Although to be honest I have yet to see the ones in Loro Parque and San Diego.
I'm genuinely surprised nowhere in the UK has yet attempted to create an indoor penguin exhibit, other than the London Aquarium's exhibit for Gentoos. Kings and Chinstraps - to say nothing of Emperor and Adelie - would clearly do best kept like this and are spectacular birds.
