I can't wait to visit this zoo so that I can finally see the rare and elusive golden labrador in captivity. Or how about the dangerous yet exotic miniature poodle? And who can forget about the now highly endangered Egyptian house cat? In all seriousness, I know that many nations of the world have zoos with cats and dogs in them...but it's still rather amusing for a Westerner to see enclosures for such common domestic animals.
I'm afraid even the golden labrador is too rare to display here. Though there are some persians, siamese, himalayans and russian blues, dogs were limited to a couple of mongrels. It was odd to see a few cages with random stray cats in, despite the fact that they're all over the zoo.
It seems to be quite common practice in Egypt, as there are plenty of online stories by tourists about the 'Dog house' in the Giza zoo.
