Red-billed Oxpecker (Buphagus erythrorhynchus) on giraffe
I'm enjoying your pictures of Kruger Newzooboy. What were the highlights of Kruger for you? I am hoping to get there sometime in the not-distant future and would appreciate any tips on what to keep my eyes open for. Did you see any wild dogs?

Hi David

Particular highlights for me were spotted hyaena with cubs, ground hornbill, the antelope that you rarely see in zoos in Europe (steenbok, duiker, etc), and just the sheer variety and volume of wildlife. If you are interested in all wildlife (rather than just the 'big 5') including the birds and small stuff (like me!) the spotting experience is a joy. My advice, find a quiet spot (possibly by the river) and stay there for a while and the wildlife will come to you. Stay in one of the camps in the park (despite the awful food options!) and get out into the park as early as you can. We didn't see wild dogs or cheetah (or klipspringer which I really wanted to see) but friends of ours saw them all and difference was only an hour (we still got up at 6am!).
Avoid the sunset drive - you won't see much and what you do see is for a second as someone shines a massive light on it.....
Instead go for the dawn walk in the park - it's a real thrill to be actually walking in the park and we saw rhino and elephant at close quarters.
Hope this helps! Enjoy, it was even better than I could have imagined and we only did the bit around Skukuza.

There should be zoos with huge cages to keep the oxpeckers with giraffes or rhinos. That would be something special!
