How tame were these? They look almost like pets considering that it looks like they are just sitting in the rafters!
:)

They are just sitting in the rafters. These genets live in the roof of the restaurant and come out during the evening, sit around for a bit to watch the patrons, then leave to go hunting. The 'rafters' are actually beams put in especially for the genets and serve no other purpose. The genets were well-habituated to the presence of people, but remained out of reach.

Ndutu has always been renowned for its genets - they feature on their logo, which is rather nice.

I've never made it to the place, but always thought it sounded pretty spectacular. How did you find it, Hix?

The lodge was great. Nice comfortable large rooms, and restaurant was really nice too. In the evening they had a campfire outside. And I'd just spent a few days in a tent in the Serengeti so I was really happy with the place.

However, despite there being a lot of wilderness right next to the lodge worth exploring, you couldn't venture into it due to the dangerous animals. So I could only see what was around the lodge. The rains hadn't yet arrived, so it was rather dry, yet it was overcast the one night and following morning I was there, which was not the best for photography.

The following morning as we left for Ngorongoro we went for a drive around Lake Ndutu and Lake Maslek, but saw very little.

Still, I'd include it on my itinerary again if I ever return and do the Northern Circuit.
