Waterbuck and Impala

Taken in Tarangire National Park 16/2/2015
See here: http://www.zoochat.com/2255/laughingdoves-little-tanzanian-adventure-402179/ for a trip review
Is anyone able to identify whether the Waterbuck are Defassa or Ellipsen?
Also could anyone who manages to identify them tell me how they were able to do so?
Thanks :)

This is an ellipsen (A.K.A. common) waterbuck.
You could tell because the rump has a white ring and isn't a big white patch like with defassa.

It can be complicated at times yes. I think Tanzania has both species of Waterbuck. Reminds of the first time I was in Tarangire.
