I'm sure Perth Zoo has some of these trees growing. Of course you realise there are a few other common names this tree is known by!;)...........

No, we were told Sausage Tree by our guide and (apart from one of our group that wanted to call it Salami Tree) that's all we heard the locals call it too.

Ahhhh - so that is where sausage comes from! It is surprisingly affordable in the supermarket, considering they have to import it all the way from Africa.

There were some growing at the Big Pineapple wildlife park in Queensland too, with the other exotic fruit trees.

Iconic trees like this should feature more in zoo exhibits.

The flowers are pretty great too. It is bat pollinated .

Sausage Tree is a standard common name, but there is no standardization of plant common names. Genus is Kigelia

Well how awesome would it be if they had some signs up (at a zoo) describing this. I bet very few people would know that bats are pollinators. Be out of this world amazing if they managed to display the trees near some African pollinating bats too!

They do look more like salamis than sausages. :D
