DavidBrown 17 Sep 2013 WOW. That's a fantastic looking bird that I did not know existed until I saw your photos. Did you get to see your wild shoebill? What were the birdy highlights of your trip?

Hix 17 Sep 2013 Shoebill is a no. Lots of looking to no avail. Birdy highlights were bee-eaters, kingfishers, barbets, sunbirds, great blue turacos and seeing species that I've commonly seen in captivity like the Red-cheeked Cordons and African Grey Parrots.

Hix 17 Sep 2013 "I've been a guide here for eight years, and this is only the second time I've not seen shoebills". The gods must have been pissed off at me for some reason.

Hix 30 Sep 2013 Yeah, these birds were a beautiful shade of blue, almost electric blue. The tail should be slightly longer, but still a beautiful bird.
