These were probably my favourite birds of the the trip - they weren't a regular species in this area, but a flock of 17 birds had taken up residence on the lake at the front of our second camp when we arrived, and stayed for the remainder of the trip. This meant we saw them every time we were at camp (quite literally morning, noon, and night!) for the next four-and-a-half days - and as time went on the skimming displays got more and more spectacular.
These weren't my first skimmers - I saw Black Skimmer in Florida, which were amazing enough, but they didn't budge from the beach so we didn't get to see the skimming from them. The African Skimmers were far more entertaining!
