A wonderful event, we truly felt welcome by the zoo and its management, and the weather on that weekend was fantastic, one of my most memorable meetings and zoo visits!
It was a great weekend. I remember the sun was particularly strong when it came to photo time, hence the rather strange expression I'm pulling over your right shoulder, Baldur!
When I attended the first time (London 2001) there were three women, two the wives of collectors and the third a French schoolar interested in the history of menageries, don't know her name and never seen her again. But there have been a few more since, attending maybe one year and not the next, although mostly wives as before. Lets say 90-95% male instead!
I've found that although the proportions of people particularly interested in going to zoos seem to be closer to 50/50 male/female, the proportions interested in joining societies (IZES, Bartlett Society etc) or going to formal meetings such as Zoohistorica have always had a strong male bias.
