Mongolia bird 2

Hi folks. A friend went to Mongolia recently and can\'t identify some of the animals in the pics he took so I volunteered your services. Any ideas what species this is? He said he used the flash in this one I think.

This looks like a Chestnut-vented Nuthatch Sitta nagaensis

According to a few websites, that species is found in south east Asia, but not Mongolia. Are you sure that is what it is?

No I thought it was well out of range when I suggested it but it does look like chestnut-vented the only other thing i can think of is another nuthatch species (which i think would all be out of range) or possibly azure x blue tit?

looking at it again the vent markings really point towards chestnut-vented nuthatch.

Don't pretend to know anything about either Nuthatch taxonomy or Mongolian birding, but I wonder what you chaps might think about this:-http://http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:SittaTephronota.svg

The distribution might just fit, too.

Looks like Eastern Rock Nuthatch then. And isn't it lovely!
