Hi folks. A friend went to Mongolia recently and can't identify some of the animals in the pics he took so I volunteered your services. Any ideas what species this is?
ok. it is currently undescribed but labled as Phrynocephalus cf. przewalskii, according to my friends in the U.S. and St. Petersburg Russia. hope that helps, nano'. it looked similar to my przewalskii, but varied in colour and pattern.

the cf. is used to say you think it is a different species then przewalskii, but are not totally sure. so, thought to be a new species then przewalskii, but it has not been looked into yet. in the future it can change to aff. if you feel there is stronger evidence to support it being a different species, but still not totally sure. so, in the end at least until it is looked into further, it is just Phrynocephulus sp.

cf. = confer (basically "comparable to")
aff. = affinis ("similar to")
sp. = species (i.e. you'd write Phrynocephalus sp. if you knew which genus it was in but not which species. The plural form is spp. Subspecies is ssp.)
