I plan on visiting the Southwest within the next year and was thinking about visiting this place for the odd species they keep (dik-dik, jackal, Beisa Oryx, the hornbill) but looking at the standard of welfare and the price ($40!) I'm not sure if it's worth it... despite how badly I'd love to see the dik-dik and hornbill especially.
@ThylacineAlive I have seen dik-dik at several zoos so I do not think they are that uncommon. However this zoo does have a lot of rare animals, albeit in some very bad exhbits. I assume by hornbill you mean the white thighed hornbill (only one in USA)?
I would say it takes about four hours to see everything, though if you want to linger and go back to exhibits to get better photos, you could make it all day.
Gunther's Dik-Dik is down to two males in US zoos: 1.0 here and 1.0 at Cameron Park Zoo. Kirk's Dik-Dik is the one which is more common. I do mean the White-Thighed Hornbill.
