Yeah that would have been far more naturalistic and if they went one step further and installed a viewing platform for visitors on foot so they can stay as long as they require instead of floating past on the river boats. Is a large exhibit though
@robking1991 Visitors are not allowed anywhere near this enclosure on foot- these days a lot of the open parkland areas at Longleat are 'no go' for pedestrians, with 'no access' notices dotted about. Probably health and safety issues but it feels very restricted where you can go nowadays, and even some of the routes in and out of the Longleat estate are one way now with traffic controls/barriers installed. You can only really walk about freely in the plaza area adjacent to the house and main carpark.
I agree that cruising past these Gorillas on the boat is a poor way of viewing them if you want more than a brief look at them- when I went recently I didn't bother to do the boat ride for that reason. I think you can also visit them for longer on a VIP tour- if you want to spend outlandish amounts of money, that is.....
