Anniversary Banner

These banners, which depict historic moments and milestones, have been put up along the main path of Melbourne Zoo to celebrate their 150th anniversary. Does anyone have any information about these twins? I checked in the 150 Years of Melbourne Zoo book but it doesn\'t mention them.

So I found this article about Kamil who is Suma's daughter and realised that Suma still lives at Melbourne Zoo. Does anyone know where Bono lives or if he's even still alive?

Suma is also called Gabby by Melbourne Zoo in press releases. Maybe that's why you didn't realize until now.

And, I think you're correct when you say that Ya Kwanza was the first gorilla born by AI.

Suma is also called Kiani. It is Kamil who also called Gabby.

Bono is also known as Kembar. He went to Hyderabad in 1993. I don't know if he's still alive or not though.

it doesn't make things easy when they give the orangs multiple names, that's for sure!

They were born to a Bornean mother and a Sumatran father making them hydrids.Bono left the zoo in 1986?And was replaced by Santan arriving from Toronto in 1987.The twins mother was a female named Olga but she died at birth from birth complications so they were hand raised.Soon they were orphaned by another female orang at the zoo,Girlie.Girlie died in early 1980's.Hopefully that answers your questions Pat.
