Buin zoo now has 3 kodkod that were rescued from the forest fires of early 2017 and have survived their injuries. Santiago zoo has 1 rescued kodkod. These felines cannot be releaesd because the forests where they lived have been destroyed, perhaps a breeding group could be considered as possible.
